Dongfeng has opened the order books for its latest electric vehicle named the eπ 007, with prices starting at just 159,000 yuan (US$ 22,400), which appears to be quite a bargain for Chinese buyers. Additionally, early bird buyers will receive a special subsidy of 10,000 yuan (US$ 1,400) that they can apply towards colors, optional extras, accessories, or packages for their order. The eπ 007 is a stylish four-door electric fastback with a sleek and aerodynamic design, boasting a low drag coefficient of only 0.209 Cd. Its front end resembles that of many other Chinese EVs, featuring slim LED daytime running lights and lower-positioned main headlamp clusters. The absence of a front grille is compensated by an angular crease that running across the width of the car.
Other notable elements of the design
include flush-fitting door handles, slender LED taillights, and a retractable
spoiler. Chinese customers even have the option to equip the eπ 007 with
scissor doors inspired by Lamborghini. These scissor doors are available as
part of a special optional package priced at 22,000 yuan (US$ 3,100) offered for
the higher-end 620Pro and 540 Max models.
In terms of dimensions, the eπ 007
measures 4,880 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, and stands
1,460 mm tall with a 2,915 mm wheelbase. Considering
the car’s starting price, one might expect the interior to be stripped of
creature comforts. However, that’s not the case. The center of the dashboard
features a 15.6-inch infotainment display, while in front of the driver,
there’s an 8.8-inch driving cluster that can flip around, a feature reminiscent
of the McLaren 720S.
Dongfeng has even gone the extra mile by
outfitting the eπ 007 with front 8-point massage seats, a 64-color ambient
lighting system, a premium sound setup featuring no fewer than 20 speakers,
convenient 50W wireless charging and facial recognition for door unlocking. It
also gets a comprehensive array of 38 sensors that enable various functions,
including memory parking, remote control parking, and the company’s advanced
driving assistance system.
The eπ 007 will be available in both battery-electric
and range-extended electric variants. The base 53-Pro BEV model features a
56.83 kWh battery pack, a rear electric motor with 215 hp and 310 Nm of torque. It boasts a driving range of up to 530 km on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. The
mid-range 620Pro variant comes equipped with a larger 70.26 kWh battery pack, a
268 hp rear electric motor, and 320 Nm of torque. It
sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in a quicker 5.8 seconds and offers an extended
range of up to 620 km on a single charge.
Sitting at the top of the range is the
performance-focused 540 Max version featuring the same 70.26 kWh battery pack
and two electric motors delivering a combined 536 hp and 640 Nm of torque. This variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.9
seconds and can cover a distance of 540 km on a single charge. Dongfeng
also offers a range-extended version called 200Pro, which incorporates a
1.5-liter engine, a 28.39 kWh battery, and utilizes the same 215 hp and 310 Nm rear electric motor as the base model. This version can
travel up to 200 km solely on electric power or an impressive 1,200
km with the 1.5-liter engine serving as a range extender.
