The all-new 2024 Lexus GX is one of the most capable new SUVs of its size on the market, but there is always room for improvement with some help from the aftermarket. Lexus, in collaboration with Japanese tuner Jaos, presented the GX 550 Overtrail at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, inspiring future owners to tastefully modify their SUVs for adventure. The Lexus GX is already available in the US, but it will be introduced in the Japanese market by the end of 2024. The goal of the “Overtrail” edition was to create a “dependable vehicle capable of navigating the most challenging environments”, and show the tuning potential of the model.
The custom bodykit by Jaos makes the GX
look even more rugged, complementing the boxy styling of the original. Add-ons
include a new front bumper made of ABS resin, bolt-on-style fender extensions
finished in matte black, steel tube side steps, mudguards, and aluminum skid
plates on both ends. Furthermore, the black anodized aluminum Jaos Flat Rack on
the roof offers extra space for any kind of equipment.

Cross 18-inch wheels shod in Toyo Tires Open Country A/T III rubber. Besides
the new shoes, the Overtrail benefits from Battlez’s lifted titanium-infused
springs, and Harmofleq 2 adjustable dampers, resulting in an increased ground
clearance. There are no changes under the hood, which means that the GX 550
retains the twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 gasoline engine. The mill produces 349 hp and 650 Nm of torque, sending power to all four
wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Lexus GX shares its GA-F
ladder-frame underpinnings with the Toyota Land Cruiser J250, although the
latter is not available with a V6.
Besides the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail, the
company’s booth at the Tokyo Auto Salon will also include the Lexus LX 600
Offroad Team Jaos. The specially prepared flagship SUV completed the
challenging 2,110 km course of the 2023 Baja 1000 race, featuring
several modifications by Jaos.
