Judging by the latest bunch of spy shots posted on AutoHome, the upcoming Haval H9 SUV will look much like the smaller Haval Raptor model. Sales in China will not begin until next spring, so let’s have a closer look. The next generation of the H9 looks drastically different from the current one with a boxier body design, a larger radiator grille and an added spare wheel cover on the tailgate. If you compare it to the current generation (see video), you will see that it resembles an enlarged Raptor more than anything.

A peek into the cabin reveals a wide transmission tunnel with a gear lever you’d expect to see in a Tank-brand SUV. The steering wheel has three spokes, and there are two displays on the dash, the middle one sitting above large air vents.

In all likelihood, the new H9 will be a body-on-frame SUV like its predecessor. In its base spec for the domestic market, it can get a 2.0-liter turbo engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission – same as the Tank 300. A hybrid variant of the same powertrain may also go on sale with more than 300 PS of combined power. Finally, the market observers in China expect a diesel engine to be available as well.

Having said that, all the technical specifications are pure speculation at this point. Haval might as well ship the new H9 exclusively with electrified engines and give the flagship spec over 400 PS. We should be able to learn more in a few months.
