In 2021 SAIC Volkswagen first debuted the ID.3 in China. The company is back with a new iteration in 2024 for both the ID.3 and ID.4 models. With updated information and specs on its official site, the ID.3 has launched with two configurations priced at 163,888 yuan (US$ 23,000) and 171,388 yuan (US$ 24,000). This price point is higher than its previous iteration after the announcement of price cuts last year and a starting price of US$ 16,600.
The car offers four exterior colors
(Aurora Green, Ion Grey, Bay Blue, and Star White) and two interior options
(Jupiter Gold and Dark Magnetic Field). While largely similar to its
predecessors, the updated model showcases subtle exterior changes, including a
closed front grille, a new style of LED headlights, and a more sporty,
aerodynamic profile. At the rear, the design features a rounded look with a
small spoiler at the roof’s end, enhancing its sporty appeal. With dimensions
identical to the previous model, measuring 4261/1778/1568 mm
(length/width/height) and a wheelbase of 2765 mm, the car while still very much
a compact size, is roomy enough for its passengers.
Inside, the ID.3 maintains a minimalist
design with a compact full LCD instrument panel, a floating multimedia system
supporting Apple CarPlay, and integrated electronic shift controls, optimizing
storage space in the center console. Under the hood, it houses a permanent
magnet synchronous motor delivering 125kW of power and a peak torque of 310 Nm.
The car boasts a CLTC (China’s standardized testing) comprehensive operating
range of 450 kilometers thanks to 52.8kWh battery. For comparison, the new
Model 3 rear-wheel drive has a CLTC operating range of 606 km.
As for the ID.4, a broader array of four
price points are available ranging from 195,000 yuan (US$ 27,000) to 283,000
yuan (US$ 38,000). In terms of power, the new Volkswagen ID.4 with its CLTC
system has a projected operating mileage of 425 km, 601 km, and 555 km with a
maximum power of 125kW, 150kW, and 230kW available respectively. Further
details and features of the vehicles should be updated on the official site
soon.
