The highlight of Toyota’s booth at the Tokyo Auto Salon has been the facelifted GR Yaris but it also brought along with it a pair of modified GR Yaris and GR Corolla models that show just how mean the duo can be made to look with some visual alterations.
Starting with the smaller of the two
models is the GR Yaris RR x GROW Concept. It has been outfitted with several
parts from Rookie Racing that add to its aggression, including a dramatic front
splitter. Additionally, Toyota has equipped it with a set of silver wheels with
purple lug nuts and a pair of side skirt extensions. Changes continue at the
rear where there is a new lip attached to the bumper, titanium exhaust tips,
and a towering rear wing perhaps inspired by the wing of the WRC rally car. The
car’s ride height also appears to have been dropped.
Joining the special GR Yaris at Toyota’s
booth is the GR Corolla x GROW Design. It too has received many exterior
upgrades to make it much more compelling, including a subtle front splitter and
side skirt extensions. It has also been fitted with a set of mismatched wheels
with a black finish on the passenger side and a gold/bronze finish on the
driver’s side.
Curiously, Toyota hasn’t released any
photos of the car’s rear end but we can see that it is sporting a large wing
and a new spoiler just below the rear window. The car’s rear diffuser also
looks to have been tweaked. It is unclear if the parts showcased by these two
concepts will be produced. What Toyota has confirmed is that the updated GR
Yaris will be offered with a suite of official performance parts, including a
carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber rear wing, a low-inertia dual-mass flywheel,
and a set of new shock absorbers developing for track use.
