As one of Japan’s most celebrated tuning companies, it’s no surprise that TOM’s Racing had an impressive display at the Tokyo Auto Salon. While five of the six creations it worked on were new cars, the real highlight of its booth was a modified A80-generation Toyota Supra, which marks the brand’s entry into the restoration business. Described as a restomod, the car draws obvious design inspiration from the Supra-based TRD 3000GT that Toyota introduced in 1994. That vehicle served as a road-legal version of the Supra race car that competed in the Japanese Grand Touring Championship and rocked a host of special exterior parts. Toyota would go on to build just 35 examples of the TRD 3000GT.
Much like the TRD creation, the Supra from
TOM’s Racing has a wide bodykit including a thoroughly revised front fascia.
New elements found up front include a revised bumper and grille just like the
TRD 3000GT. Additionally, it has been fitted with a hood with prominent vents
to help keep the engine bay cool and has also been equipped with triangular
vents on the front quarter panels. The Toyota is also sporting a pair of new
rocker panels and side skirts while found at the rear is a bumper just like the
TRD 3000GT. A towering rear wing is also featured.
Immediately making TOM’s Racing’s creation
stand out from one of the rare models built by Toyota itself is the bright
green paint scheme. We’ve never seen an A80 Supra painted in this color before
and think it looks quite nice. Contrasting the paint are bright gold-painted
aftermarket wheels, radically different than the shoes of the car that inspired
this one.
Details about the performance-focused
modifications made to the car are limited but we can see that it is sporting a
set of new Brembo brakes. In the future, the company plans to offer restoration
services for vehicles such as the Celica (TA22), Levin Trueno (AE86), Soarer
(GZ20), and MR2 (SW20), with a specific focus on Toyota sports cars.
