Honda is ready to expand its EV lineup in China with the new Ye series of models. The Honda Ye S7 was officially previewed at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show together with the closely related P7, and the low-slung GT Concept. Following the model’s appearance on China’s MIIT website, Dongfeng Honda used its social media channels to share a new set of photos, showing the Ye S7 in black. The exterior design of the S7 is characterized by sharp surfacing and angular wheel arches, which are shared with the P7. However, the S7 has unique full-width LED headlights and a Cadillac-inspired tail. The EV features mirror-replacing cameras and flush door handles, contributing to the aerodynamics.
Inside, there is a large portrait-oriented
infotainment touchscreen display covering the entire center console, and a
smaller digital instrument cluster mounted high on the dashboard. We can also
see some sort of ambient lighting integrated on the dashboard and door trim,
complemented by a large dual sunroof. According to the MIIT, the Honda Ye S7
measures 4,750 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,625 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. Those numbers
are comparable to the Tesla Model Y and Mustang Mach-E, as well as a multitude
of electric SUV rivals from Chinese brands.
We already knew that the Honda Ye S7 will
ride on an EV-dedicated architecture developed in China, but we now have access
to preliminary specifications. The RWD version is fitted with a single electric
motor producing 268 hp, while the AWD model adds a
front-mounted electric motor producing an extra 201 hp. The
documents didn’t include information about the range, but earlier reports
suggest that the EV will travel over 500 km between charges, thanks
to a CATL-sourced ternary lithium battery pack of unknown capacity.
Honda previously said that the Ye S7 and
P7 will hit the roads in China before the end of the year, while the GT will
follow in late 2025. The S7 will be manufactured in China by the Honda Dongfeng
joint venture, while the P7 will be a product of GAC Honda. The automaker has
pledged to introduce ten EVs in China by 2027, with six of them coming from the
Ye Series. Honda’s ultimate goal is to become an EV-only brand in the region by
2035.
