One year after the debut of the Hyundai Exter in the Indian market, the automaker announced a new special edition of the entry-level SUV. The Hyundai Exter Knight features a dark theme inside-out, positioned as the new flagship trim of the lineup. As with the Knight editions of other Hyundai models, the tiny SUV tries to look cool with a blacked-out treatment. The pictured example is finished in Abyss Black, although owners can also get it in Starry Night, Atlas White, Ranger Khaki, or Shadow Gray.
The dark theme is further accentuated by
the black alloy wheels, badging, and skid plates, making it hard to see at
night. In fact, the only colorful touches are the red trim pieces on the front
bumper and the tailgate, plus the matching brake calipers.
Inside, Hyundai designers opted for a
similar treatment, with dark upholstery and a little bit of red. The latter can
be found on the dashboard, piping, and stitching, distracting us from the hard
plastics that dominate the cabin. Based on the high-spec SX trim, the Hyundai
Exter Knight comes standard with LED lights, an 8-inch infotainment
touchscreen, a rearview camera, a wireless charging pad, six airbags, and a
sunroof.
The Knight edition of the Hyundai Exter is
exclusively available with a naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter petrol engine,
producing 82 hp and 114 Nm of torque. The mill is
mated to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic, sending power to
the front axle. Note that lesser trims of the i10-based SUV are also available
with a bi-fuel powertrain option.
The Hyundai Exter Knight is already
available to order in India, priced between Rs 8.38-10.43 lakh (US$ 10,034-12,489)
depending on the configuration. This makes it only Rs 15,000 (US$ 180) more
expensive compared to the equivalent trims, creating a compelling package for
Indian buyers. Note that the rival Tata Punch is also expected to gain a
similar Dark Edition in the near future, while the similarly-sized Nissan
Magnite already has a Kuro Edition.
