Porsche is broadening its lineup of electric SUVs with the introduction of the rear-wheel-drive Macan and the all-wheel-drive Macan 4S. Furthermore, for those yearning for a touch more terra firma from their Porsche, all trims can now be gussied up with an optional off-road design package. Starting with the entry-level Macan, it is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 335 hp, or up to 355 hp and and 563 Nm of torque on overboost. The least powerful electric Macan accelerates from 0-97 km/h in 5.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 219 km/h.
Predictably, the first RWD version of the
SUV is the lightest member of the range, weighing 110 kg less than
the Macan 4. This means it’s also the most efficient, potentially boasting the
longest range from the standard 100 kWh battery pack, even though Porsche has
yet to announce the EPA estimates. As with all versions of the electric Porsche
Macan, the 800-volt PPE architecture supports DC charging up to 270 kW,
enabling the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. The next
addition to the lineup is the more powerful Macan 4S, bridging the gap between
the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. It features a dual electric motor setup that
delivers a combined 442 hp, or 509 hp and 784 Nm of torque on overboost. This configuration enables a quick 0-97 km/h sprint in just 3.9 seconds, making it 1 second faster than
the Macan 4 and 0.8 seconds slower than the Macan Turbo. The top speed is
electronically limited to 240 km/h.
Both the Macan and the Macan 4S feature
standard adaptive air suspension and electronically controlled dampers (PASM),
with the option for rear-axle steering. Additionally, the AWD Macan 4S is
equipped with the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management system,
which can optionally integrate with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. The new
variants are now available for order, with the first deliveries in the US
expected in the fourth quarter of the year. The entry-level Porsche Macan is
priced from US$ 75,300, while the Macan 4S starts from US$ 84,900. Note that the
aforementioned prices do not include taxes, registration, dealer charges, or a US$ 1,995 delivery fee. The new variants are now available for order, with first
US deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year. Prices start at US$ 75,300 for the base Macan and US$ 84,900 for the Macan 4S, but remember, that’s
before taxes, registration, dealer fees, and a $US1 ,995 delivery fee.
In addition to the new powertrain options,
Porsche has introduced an optional off-road design package available for all
trims of the electric Macan. This package promises to enhance the SUV’s rugged
and adventurous appearance while improving its daily usability, especially for
those who plan on driving it off the beater track. The package includes a
redesigned front bumper with matching elements on the side skirts and diffuser.
Skid plates are available in body-color or contrasting Vesuvius Grey, as shown
in the press photos. It also features a body kit that can be paired with new
five-spoke 21-inch alloy wheels, finished in matching Vesuvius Grey.
More importantly, the off-road design
package brings a 10 mm lift on the air suspension, increasing the
ground clearance to 195 mm on the normal setting, and 225 mm in the highest setting. In combination with the slightly tweaked front
bumper, the maximum approach angle is 17.5 degrees, further reducing the risk
of scraping the underbody of the Macan.
Setting aside the new package, Porsche has
introduced additional personalization options for the Macan EV. These include
the new Slate Grey Neo color option in the palette and the addition of 20-inch
Macan S alloy wheels. Finally, the Porsche Driver Experience digital cockpit
has been updated with new graphics and animations for the screens. The new
Themes application allows drivers to adjust the background color of the
displays and ambient lighting to match the exterior shade of the vehicle.
