Fiat introduced a new version of the Argo small hatchback in Brazil, combining a bare-bones character with raised suspension and grippy tires. The model is aimed for agricultural use, serving as a direct rival to the VW Polo Robust that debuted earlier this year. The Fiat Argo Endurance looks like a cheaper version of the Argo Trekking, doing without the roof rails, fog lights, and stickers. Still, it retains the plastic cladding around the wheel arches, and a piece of underbody protection, set to keep the crankcase safe in rough roads. More importantly, the new trim rides on a set of 15-inch wheels shod in 205/60 R15 all-terrain tires. It also sits higher than the standard Argo, thanks to the Trekking-sourced suspension.
According to Fiat, the ground clearance is
186 mm, allowing an approach angle of 20.5º, and a departure angle
of 33º. Those figures are better than some small SUVs, making the Argo more
suitable for light off-roading scenarios. Under the hood of the Argo Endurance
lies the 1.3-liter Firefly Flex engine, generating 106 hp and 134 Nm of torque. The “Flex” powertrain can run on both gasoline and
ethanol. Power is transmitted to the front wheels exclusively via a five-speed
manual gearbox.
The interior of the Argo Endurance is
pretty basic. Standard kit is limited to a 3.5-inch trip computer display on
the instrument cluster, air-conditioning with pollen filter, front electric
windows, remote locks, and an anti-theft alarm. The optional Comfort Pack adds
a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a USB charging port, fog lights, and parking
sensors. The Fiat Argo Endurance is currently available for a discounted R$
79,990 (US$ 14,545), making it the cheapest version of the small hatchback with the
1.3-liter powertrain. For good measure, the fancier Argo Trekking starts from
R$ 95,990 (US$ 17,448) with the same engine/gearbox combination.
The Fiat Argo was originally introduced in
2017, and received a facelift in 2022. The model shares its MLA underpinnings
with the Chronos sedan, the Pulse SUV, and the Fastback coupe-SUV. The Argo is
not the only Fiat model that is available in Endurance trim, as it follows the
example of the Strada and Toro pickups.
