Ford has grown the range of Transit Custom Nugget campers that it sells in Europe thanks to the launch of a new rugged variant and a long-wheelbase version. The new models will be displayed at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany, from August 30 to September 8. These new models have been developed alongside camper converter Westfalia, and the new Active version gives the Ford some added panache. It’s based around the existing Titanium model but now sports a new grille, black plastic rocker panels, black exterior cladding, distinctive 17-inch machined alloy wheels, and LED taillights.
Plenty of special touches have also been
made to the interior of the Ford camper. Water-resistant and durable fabric
adorns the seats and there’s a large touchscreen that can be used to monitor
and control all important vehicle functions, like the lights, heating, and
water levels. Safety features also come in abundance. These include a Driver
Assistance Pack with Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, Blind Spot
Information System, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Shoppers can order the Transit
Custom Nugget Active with all-wheel drive for the available entry-level 168 hp
EcoBlue diesel engine coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Shoppers needing extra space would be wise
to go for the long-wheelbase version, available for the Titanium and Active
variants. By growing the space between the wheels, Ford has provided a larger
kitchen area with more worktop space and more storage for pans and utensils. A
larger built-in wardrobe is also fitted. Like the standard wheelbase model,
heated swivel front seats come standard.
Sitting above the diesel engine in the
range is a plug-in hybrid. It combines a 2.5-liter petrol four-cylinder with an
electric motor and a 11.8 kWh battery pack, pushing out a total of 230 hp.
