BAIC BJ20 CONCEPT
In launching the BJ20
Concept at the 2015 Shanghai motor show, BAIC (Beijing Auto) provided no
detailed information about it. Some consider it a variant of BJ40 influenced by
Jeep Cherokee. It has a body-on-frame structure. The likely engine choice is a turbocharged
1.5 liter.
BAIC BJ 100
Launched at the 2014
Beijing motor show, the BJ100 is a full-size crossover that combines traits of
an SUV and coupe. It has a 2900mm wheelbase and is 4868mm long, 1993mm wide,
and 1815mm high. BAIC (Beijing Auto) said the concept car, featuring suicide
doors, got a hybrid powertrain but revealed no details of it.
COWIN i-CX SUV
CONCEPT
The concept SUV was
launched by Cowin Auto in late August at the 2014 Chengdu Auto Show. Two ICEs
are said to be provided, a 1.6TCI and 1.4TGDI, paired to a 6MT or 6DCT. A
plug-in hybrid version was also promised. With a 2800mm wheelbase, the i-CX
concept is 4577mm long, 1946mm wide and 1709 tall. To share a platform with the
compact Chery Tiggo 3, the production model is scheduled to hit the market
towards the end of 2015.
DENZA EV CONCEPT
The DENZA electric
concept car was developed by the joint venture of BYD and Daimler AG. Based on
a Mercedes-Benz B-Class, it was unveiled at the 2012 Beijing motor show (the
DENZA brand, or "Teng Shi," was also launched at the event). With a pure
electric drivetrain system is similar to that on the BYD e6, it is said to get
a driving range exceeding 250km.
About 4.7m long and
sitting on a 2880mm wheelbase, the concept offers four seating positions and
does away with the B pillar. While the production model, launched in April
2014, adopts a more conventional design, dropping suicide doors and
accommodating five people. Other notable features include side cameras, three
T-Pads, illuminating jade keys, and a quick charger.
The concept was
designed by Olivier Boulay, who Vice President of Daimler’s design center in
Beijing, and developed and produced by an international team in Taiwan.
DONGFENG 1 CONCEPT
The Dongfeng 1 concept,
codenamed G95, is a luxury sedan launched by Dongfeng Motor on April 18, 2014.
Based on PSA’s Platform 3, it has a wheelbase of 2950mm and is 5091mm long,
1871mm wide, and 1463mm tall. The production model will be released in 2016 and
become the flagship in the Dongfeng-brand sedan lineup.
DONGFENG L60 CONCEPT
The Dongfeng L60 is a
concept car developed by DPCA (Dongfeng-PSA) and launched on April 18, 2014. Born
on PSA’s No.2 platform–PF2, it is a compact sedan about 4.5m long. An e-Teco
1.5L engine will be employed, able to put out up to 116 horsepower and 145Nm of
torqure. The volume production model is expected to come in 2015. On the PF2,
Dongfeng-PSA has produced Peugeot 307, 308, 408 and Citroen C4. The L60 is
believed to be directly derived from an old Peugeot 408.
HONGQI (RED FLAG)
SUV CONCEPT
First Auto Works (FAW)
premiered the Hongqi SUV concept in April 2008 at the Beiing motor show. 4805mm
long, 2000mm wide and 1800 tall, the concept has a wheelbase of 2850mm and
weighs 2.5 tons. At the 2015 Shanghai motor show, FAW introduced the production
version of Hongqi SUV, which however seemed to bear little resemblance to the
concept.
GAC TRUMPCHI GA6
CONCEPT
The concept for the
upcoming Trumphi GA6 was launched by GAC (Guangzhou Auto) at the 2014 Beijing
motor show. The production model is expected to hit the market in 2015. The GA6
is built on the same chassis as the GA5, which is derived from Alfa Romeo 166.
The turbo 1.8L engine found on the GA5 will be employed.
HAVAL COUPE
The Haval Coupe,
launched by Great Wall Motor (GWM) at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, is a plug-in
electric concept vehicle.
JMC YUHU CONCEPT
PICKUP TRUCK
The concept was
launched by JMC (Jiangling Motor) at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. No specs were
given. JMC did not reveal if the concept was leading to a re-design of the
current production model of the Yuhu pickup truck. From the official news
release we understand the concept gets detachable front and rear lamps, which,
once dismounted, can be used as separate emergency or warning lights; the rear
window is said to be retractable. In presenting the concept, JMC’s main purpose
seems to be revamping its brand image rather than the current Yuhu.
LIFAN X40
Lifan Auto unveiled the
X40 concept in Shanghai in April 2015. The mini car, slotted below the X50,
will be the new entry-level model in Lifan’s SUV lineup.
LIFAN X70 CONCEPT
The X70 concept was
unveiled by Lifan Auto in April 2015 at the Shanghai Auto Show. It is styled
like a Range Rover Evoque. The production model will be slotted above the X60
in Lifan’s SUV lineup. Specs have not been disclosed.
QOROS 2 SUV CONCEPT
Qoros Auto unveiled the
PHEV concept at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2015. Designed by Gert Volker
Hilderbrand, it anticipates the second mass-produced SUV bearing the Qoros
logo, the first being the Qoros 3 City SUV.
SAIC MG Igs
The MG iGS is a
“smart-driving” concept car developed by SAIC (Shanghai Auto) and premiered at
the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. It is based on the MG GS compact SUV. The “i” the
name of the concept stands for “Information,” “Internet,” “Innovation,” and
“Intelligent.” According to SAIC, the iGS can accomplish a set of tasks without
a driver when traveling between 60-120km/h: cruising, following and overtaking
other cars, lane keeping and changing. Remote and self-parking are also said to
be among the smart features.
