2016
Subaru BRZ
Subaru
is freshening up its lovable BRZ coupe for 2016, adding a spate of new options
and tweaking the price ever so slightly. On the options front, the rear-driver
gets a new 6.2-inch touchscreen multimedia system. Like the current car's
standard 6.1-inch affair, it offers AM/FM/HD radio, satellite radio, and
Bluetooth connectivity. The new system will also play nice with your
smartphone, adding integration for Aha, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, and a
few other more mundane, everyday apps, adding weather and news features. A
rear-view camera will also come standard.
Subaru
also announced that it will once again introduce a blue-themed limited edition
(as it did with the 2015 BRZ). It’s building 500 2016 BRZs Series. Hyperblue
models, featuring black 17-inch wheels, gloss black on the badges and exterior
mirrors, and a coat of retina-scorching Hyper Blue paint. The interior dons
leather and faux-suede upholstery, with blue seat bolsters, headrests, and
stitching, accented by an embroidered silver BRZ logo on the front seat backs.
A frameless rear-view mirror and faux carbon-fiber center-dash trim come with
the package.
Limited
trim models receive a body-color trunk spoiler, fog lights and Alcantara
trimmed interior and Keyless Access. The seats are upholstered with Alcantara
inserts and leather bolsters. 6-speed manual BRZ Limited models begin at US$ 27,395, down US$ 300 from the previous model year. An optional 6-speed Electronic
Direct-Control automatic transmission priced at US$ 28,495 and offers steering
wheel paddle-shift controls.
The
BRZ Limited substitutes a dual-zone automatic climate control for the Premium
model's manual HVAC system, and its standard All-Weather Package includes
dual-mode heated front seats and heated side mirrors. In the Limited, the dual
visor vanity mirrors are illuminated, and front door courtesy lights illuminate
when the doors are opened.
