BMW
Concept 101 Bagger
BMW recently unveiled
it’s Concept 101 bagger at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este, Italy. The
Concept 101 has been designed and built by Roland Sands Design and is a hybrid
concept that perches between a high-displacement touring motorcycle and a
performance bagger.
The Concept 101 is
powered by a 1,649 cc, in-line, six-cylinder engine, the same motor that powers
the BMW K 1600 GT/GTL and GTL Exclusive. The engine produces 160 bhp of power
and 175 Nm of torque that is abundant to comfortably cruise on the motorcycle
at constant high speeds.
“The Concept 101 opens
up a new chapter in the history of our concept bikes. It is the BMW Motorrad
interpretation of endless highways and the dream of freedom and independence –
the perfect embodiment of ‘American touring.’ Designing this big touring bike
study was amazingly exciting for us because we haven’t been involved with a
motorcycle concept like this before. To me, the Concept 101 is the epitome of
elegance, power and luxury on two wheels,” said Edgar Heinrich, Head of BMW
Motorrad Design.
The Concept 101 has
been designed specifically keeping the American audiences in mind, and if BMW
Motorrad goes ahead and actually puts this motorcycle in production, then it
means that BMW would be entering a completely new market where it would go head
on against the likes of Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles (while the BMW
would be technically way more advanced, and way more expensive than both).
