Great
Wall Cool Bear
The
Great Wall Coolbear is a city sized small car designed with a high seating
position. Its competitors include Kia Soul, Scion xB, and Nissan Cube.
The
Coolbear's design is a carbon copy of many Scion models. The side is similar to
a Scion xB, the back is a close copy of the previous generation xB, and the
front is also a close copy of the Scion t2B concept car. The Coolbear comes in
with choice of three engines starting from the 1.2 litre diesel; and 1.3 litre,
and 1.5 litre gasoline engine.
A
tiny centre-mounted exhaust outlet doesn't exactly shout formula one but it is,
at least, something different.
The
Coolbear looks distinctive and gets plenty of space; so much so that headroom
is vast, whichever of the five seats you're sitting in. There's plenty of open
storage areas that can look after a phone, wallet or purse.
Just
like the exterior, the interior has a freshly utilitarian flavour that breaks
out from the small-car mould.
Under
the stubby bonnet is a modest 1.5-litre engine that can be mated to a
continuously variable transmission.
Designed
by Great Wall, the CVT can be sluggish from a standstill — particularly on
hills — but otherwise does its best to make the most out of the engine by
altering engine revs according to the driving style and desired power.
