Prodrive
P2
The
Prodrive P2 comes from British automotive engineering company Prodrive.
Prodrive are known the world over for their enhancements to the Subaru Impreza
WRX. Amongst other things Prodrive also run the Subaru World Rally Team, Ford
Performance Racing Team in the Australian V8 Supercar Series and they helped
build the Aston Martin DBR9.
The
Prodrive P2 Supercar concept revealed at the 2006 Birmingham NEC Motor Show was
intended as a display of Prodrives engineering and manufacturing abilities.
The
P2's styling comes from the same man who helped create the Mclaren F1, Peter
Stevens, and is its chiseled lines are constructed from composite materials
helping the P2 achieve a total weight of just 1100 kgs (2425 lbs). Power for
the Prodrive P2 comes from a turbocharged 2 litre flat four engine mated to a
4WD transmission, courtesy of an Impreza STi.
Prodrive
have also integrated a couple of their own highly advanced performance systems
into the P2. First up is a traction and cornering stability control system
called ATD, designed to ensure sure footed handling characteristics. While the
engine of the P2 benefits from a road-going 'anti-lag' system designed to
eliminate the turbo lag associated with high performance turbocharged engines.
Anti-lag technology is already in use on race cars, but Prodrive has made the
system quieter and more suited to road driving.
The
Prodrive P2 is not destined for full scale production, only as a one off
display of Prodrive's engineering and manufacturing abilities.
