Fiftie
The
Renault Fiftie which was unveiled at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show was designed to
mark the 50th anniversary of the Renault 4CV's introduction.
Designed
by Benoit Jacob, the Fiftie was an extremely forward thinking concept which
looks up to date even today. As expected the styling was heavily inspired by
the 4CV, but modern touches like aluminium trim elements, and crisp styling
lines gave the concept a contemporary feel.
The
Renault Fiftie was based on the the Renault Sport Spider's aluminium chassis,
and as such the Fiftie was mid-engined and rear-wheel-drive. The engine itself
was nothing to brag about as it produced a mere 60 hp from its 1.2 litre
capacity.
The
interior was a bright and pleasant space which was styled to create a
"refreshing" environment through extensive use of cotton, linen, and
rattan. The steering wheel and pedals were adjustable for reach. A
multifunction screen in the center of the dash provided control for the audio
system, climate control and telephone.
Sadly
the Fiftie never went into production. Which is a shame because its styling
alone would have gained it many admirers.
