Spartan-V
The
Spartan-V is an ultra-light track car which originates from Australia. The
Spartan-V project is one which has it's roots back in the early 1980s, when two
brothers built their first motorcycle-engine powered buggy. Fast forward nearly
30 years and the Spartan-V is where you get to. A featherweight sports car with
supercar humbling acceleration, a simple yet gorgeous body, and a drivetrain
lifted from one of today's most advanced superbikes.
The
Spartan-V is based around a tubular steel spaceframe chassis which is both
light and strong. Into that the engine and transmission from a Ducati 1198S is
slotted. That means 170 horsepower is on tap from a 1.2 litre engine, and all
the power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed sequential transmission.
Thanks to the Spartan-V's incredibly low weight of just 300kgs (660 lbs) the
car can rocket to 62 mph (100km/h) in just 3 seconds. Top speed is 174 mph.
The
Spartan-V track car features numerous other high-spec components; like a
digital dash, Wilwood ventilated and scalloped brake discs, Wilwood 4-piston
billet calipers, Tilton racing pedals with brake bias, Woodward Racing quick
ratio steering rack, fully adjustable suspension, Drexler Motorsport limited
slip differential, and FIA approved Sparco race seats with 5 or 6 point
harnesses.
At
the moment the Spartan-V is in the final stages of development. The shape of
the bodywork has been finalised, and the company are just waiting to get the
production moulds back so they can start work on the series production cars.
They only plan on making 300 examples - in honor of the Greek warriors after
which the car is named.
Price
for the Spartan-V is $ 90,000 Australian dollars. That works out to about
$ 84,000 USD or £ 54,000 GBP.
