Toyota
Mega Cruiser
The
Toyota Mega Cruiser was first seen at the 1993 Tokyo Motor Show, two year later
it went into production. The Toyota Mega Cruiser was Japan's answer to the
Hummer H1. Originally conceived as a military vehicle, there was a number which
were put to civilian use. Many Mega Cruisers also found their way to the Police
and other emergency services.
Powering
the massive 7 ft wide (2.1 metre) Toyota Mega Cruiser is a 4.1 litre inline
four-cylinder engine which develops 150 horsepower and 280 ft-lbs of torque.
This is connected to a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, the
Mega Cruiser is fitted with full-time four-wheel-drive.
The
Mega Cruiser played a part in helping Toyota understand what makes a capable
off-road vehicle, and the lessons learnt and technology tested found their way
into more mainstream products like the Toyota Land Cruiser.
