Willys
Interlagos
The Interlagos concept
is the work of João Paulo Cunha Melo and Felipe Guimarães Coelho at Wide ID.
The Interlagos is a modern interpretation of a sports car sold in Brazil during
the 60's.
The original Willys
Interlagos was an authorized copy of the legendary Renault Alpine. During the
1960's over 800 units were produced in three forms, berlinetta, coupe and
convertible. The Interlagos name was taken from the famous São Paulo racetrack.
Using modern
technology, like 3D modeling software, Wide ID kept in mind the proportions and
basic shape of the original Interlagos, while at the same time up-dating the
construction methods, ergonomic layout and safety features.
Following the ideals of
the original car which was intended to be a low price sport car, the new
Interlagos has been designed to accommodate readily available Renault
components produced in Brazil. A 142 horsepower, 2.0-litre, 16 valve, four-cylinder
engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels.
Wide ID are currently
seeking to bring the Interlagos back to the streets, and have registered the
trade mark Interlagos name, as well as creating detailed packaging models and
production cost estimations, and identifying potential suppliers and a market
position.
