2016
Ford Explorer Platinum
Ford
has introduced a new top-spec Platinum trim of its top-selling 2016 Ford
Explorer SUV in the USA. It will become available in showrooms in September.
The
exteriors feature LED headlamps, dual-panel moonroof, 20-inch bright machined
alloy wheels and silver painted front and rear skid plates. It also
incorporates Active Grille Shutters in the upper and lower front facia. The
shutters close automatically at higher speeds to reduce drag, while at lower
speeds the shutters are opened to deliver additional airflow to cool the
engine.
The
interiors feature the use of premium materials like Nirvana leather with
micro-perforation for the seats. It also features real ash wood and aluminum
multi-piece trims on the dashboard and door panels. A heated wood and
leather-wrapped steering wheel has also been added for the feel of luxury.
It
features a 500-watt Sony Audio system with Live Acoustics and Clear Phase
technology. The Live Acoustics technology helps to re-create sound dynamics of
a concert hall for clear reproduction of sound. The Clear Phase technology
eliminates sound dispersion, pinpointing the sound towards the passengers
directly.
The
interiors will be offered in two color options – a new Ebony shade or Soft
Ceramic shade, coupled with an Anthracite headliner. The instrument panel,
quilted door bolsters, console armrests and upper door trim will be wrapped in
Nirvana leather. A large 10-inch digital display will be used for the
instrumentation along with analog meters for the first time on any Ford
vehicle.
The
2016 Explorer Platinum features driver assistance systems like lane-keeping
system, enhanced active park assist with perpendicular park assist,
rain-sensing wipers and front and rear cameras with washers amongst others.
Under
the hood, there’s a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 365
hp (272 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 474 Nm (350 lb-ft.) of torque at 3,500 rpm. It
will be mated to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The 2016 Explorer
Platinum will feature a 4WD setup with Terrain Management System as standard.
