Suzuki Solio and Bandit Hybrid
Suzuki
has just launched its brand new compact MPV, the Suzuki Solio. It comes in two
variants – the standard Solio and the higher-specced Solio Bandit. A new addition to the range is Suzuki’s Mild Hybrid technology, which
allows the new model to achieve an average fuel consumption of 27.8 km per
litre on the JC08 cycle.
Under
the bonnet is a 1.2 litre K12C Dual Jet engine that makes a humble 90 hp and
118 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT gearbox. Attached to it is the Mild Hybrid
pack, which consists of an Integrated Starter Generator, a lithium-ion battery,
stop-start system and brake-energy recuperation.
It
weighs a full 100 kg less than its predecessor with the use of a new
lightweight chassis. The Solio is 3,710 mm long, 1,625 mm wide and 1,745 mm tall.
Its wheelbase measures in at 2,515 mm, which is 30 mm longer than before. As is
the norm for JDM cars, the Solio can be had with a front- or an all-wheel drive
layout.
The
base Solio gets larger one-piece headlights, a full-chrome grille and standard
15-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it receives a four-spoke steering wheel, a
seven-inch infotainment system, Charcoal Grey seat upholstery and grey trim
panels. Keyless entry and dual cameras underneath the side mirrors are also
offered.
Meanwhile,
the Solio Bandit is the sportier version of the two. The front fascia gets a
different look, with split LED headlights and a black centre grille. Inside,
the Solio Bandit gets a more premium Piano Black gloss finish.
Advanced
safety features such as Lane Departure Warning and a Dual Camera brake support
system that detects obstacles and automatically applies the brakes have also
been introduced in the new compact MPV.The base Suzuki Solio is sold in Japan
for 1.45 million yen, while the Solio Bandit is priced at 1.82 million yen.
