2016 Toyota Prado

The 2016 Toyota Prado has launched in Australia, and debuts the all new 2.8-liter turbodiesel GD engine in the country. Price starts from $52,990 - $ 84,490.

The main highlight is the new engine under the hood, which is sourced from the 2016 Toyota Hilux Revo and 2016 Toyota Fortuner. The new 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine produces 174 hp at 3,400 rpm and 420 Nm of torque between 1,400 to 2,600 rpm with a six-speed manual, and 450 Nm from 1,600 to 2,400 rpm with the 6-speed automatic. Toyota claims the new engine makes more power than the outgoing 3.0-litre diesel unit, while registering a low fuel consumption figure of just 7.9 L/100 km (8 L/100 km with the auto).

The petrol variant is powered by the same 4.0-litre V6 engine, which has been retuned to deliver 278 hp (up by 7 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 381 Nm at 4,400 rpm. Like the diesel, it will be offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

As for standard features, the whole range will come with seven airbags, trailer sway control, 2500 kg towing capacity, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, reversing camera, smart keyless entry and engine start/stop button, cruise control, auto air-conditioning, USB port and Bluetooth connectivity. Automatic variants also gain hill start assist and downhill assist control.
