GM
EcoJet
The
EcoJet concept was unveiled at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association
(SEMA) show. The EcoJet is the brain child of celebrity talkshow host and car
collector Jay Leno.
Leno
started out by sketching his vision on a napkin, from there he managed to
enlist the help of GM's Advanced Design Studio in California who provided the
conceptual and build design, engineering, digital design and fabrication
support. The EcoJet concept was constructed at Leno's facility by his chief
mechanic, Bernard Juchli.
The
EcoJet's most unusual feature is its powerplant, the concept is powered by a
650 horsepower mid-mounted Honeywell LT-101 turbine engine fueled by biodiesel
mounted in a modified Corvette Z06 aluminium frame. The EcoJet's Cadillac-esque
body draws styling cues from modern aircraft and F1 car, and is constructed
from carbon fibre and Kevlar.
