2016
Kawasaki ZX-10R
While
on the surface, the 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R might look near identical (with some
new graphics) but its the insides that have undergone quite a major upgrading
treatment. The new model borrows technology and updates straight from the
company’s WSBK bike piloted by Jonathan Rea to the world championship.
First
and foremost, the 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R features and upgraded motor that now
produces 207 bhp of power (with Ram Air) and 112.5 Nm of torque for the
European spec model, the USA version might be slightly low on power.
Several
new additions to the 2016 motorcycle include a new lightweight titanium exhaust,
revised chassis (revised steering head position, swingarm length), more
aerodynamic fairing, upgraded Showa gas cartridge forks, Brembo M50
monobloc calipers, five-axis Bosch Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) and a totally
new and revamped electronics package.
Inside
the engine, there is a new, lightweight crankshaft which helps the engine rev
higher than before and also adds more low- mid- range power. These changes are
accompanied by a new piston design and changes to the shape of the cylinder
head, which gets polished intake and exhaust ports and also larger titanium
valves. The airbox volume is now increased by 25% with a surface area increased
by 60% for the air filter, this would help in better throttle response and
power delivery.
The
revised electronics package on the 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R includes Kawasaki
Engine Braking Control (KEBC), Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), Kawasaki
Intelligent anti-lock Braking System (KIBS), Corner Management Function, Sport
Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC) and Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS).
The
2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R is priced at US$ 15,999 to compete with the
new Yamaha YZF-R1 and R1S models. We expect to see a first real-world debut of
the newest from Team Green at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show slated to be held
between October 29 and November 8, 2015.
