Caterham
Superlight Twenty Special Edition
Caterham
is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Superlight model and has built a
special edition commemorating the occasion. The original Superlight was
introduced back in 1996 with a minimalist character and managed to sell around
200 units until production ended in 2004.
Designed
to mimic the original model, the Superlight Twenty special edition will also
sport a minimalistic approach and will be powered by a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma
engine, while production will be limited to just 20 units.
It
features the use of light-weight carbon fibre components like cycle wings,
front nose, aero screen and rear wings. The bodywork is finished in bare
aluminium and is devoid of paint which translates into 6 kg of weight savings.
The
limited edition model sports unique gauges, titanium coloured chassis, carbon
interior panels and a numbered dash plaque. Additionally, it sports
specially-embroidered carbon sports seats borrowed from the flagship Seven 620
R and ‘Superlight Twenty’ motif on the key and gear knob.
People
wanting additional equipment could be disappointed as keeping with the
minimalist theme, the special edition will only be offered with the Series 3
chassis setup and limited options include weather equipment, heater and paint.
The
Superlight Twenty is powered by a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine producing 135 bhp
mated to a 6-speed close ratio transmission. It will feature ‘Sport’ suspension
package along with a light flywheel and a limited slip differential. This means
that the special edition can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and go on to achieve a top speed of 196 km/h.
The
Superlight is already available for order and has been priced at £ 29,995.
