2017
Volvo S90 Polestar
Soon
after unveiling the Volvo S90 saloon, at the Volvo Design Centre in Gothenburg,
Sweden, Volvo reportedly confirmed that there will be a high-performance
Polestar variant of the new flagship saloon. A speculative rendering from
X-Tomi Design previews how the 2017 Volvo S90 Polestar may possibly look like.
The
rendering shows modest exterior tweaks like black upper grille, door mirrors,
window trim, door moulding as well as modified front bumper, a Polestar badge
on the upper grille and a new air dam grille. The exterior paint is the
familiar ‘Rebel blue’ seen on other current Polestar models.
The
Volvo S90 Polestar will have an estate alternative too, named ‘Volvo V90
Polestar’. Both should be powered by a performance-tuned version of the T8 Twin
Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain that was most recently announced for the 2016
Volvo S90. According to the aforementioned report, the company’s high-ranking
officials, including President and CEO Hakan Samuelsson and Senior Vice President,
Research and Development, Peter Mertens both find electrification to be the
right choice for the future Polestar variants.
The
407 hp T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid of the regular S90 to churn could be
uprated to produce somewhere between 450 hp to 500 hp for both S90 Polestar and
V90 Polestar. Both can be expected to arrive some time in 2017.
