Chevrolet Sail 3
The Chevrolet Sail 3 was on display at
the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. The ‘3’ is the name denotes the third generation
that the car is in. This vehicle made its debut at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show
and is available in the Chinese market.
Formed on GM’s new-generation small car
architecture, the design is a redo with changes to the grille, headlights,
mirrors, wheels, boot lid and tail lights. The Sail 3 is 51 mm longer and 45 mm
wider than its predecessor while its wheelbase has been extended by 35 mm for
more cabin room.
Interiors have been updated and now
boast of better quality materials. The cabin has a dual-tone theme featuring
beige and grey shades.
Aluminum accents have been used on the
door trims, center console, multi-function steering wheel and as surrounds for
the AC vents, to spruce up the otherwise plain look. The Sail 3 gains a tiny
infotainment system which is a step up from the previous generation.
Safety is well covered with anti-lock
brakes (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), cornering brake control
(CBC) and four airbags.
Mechanically, the Chevrolet Sail 3 comes
with 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter four cylinder petrol engines that have outputs of
99 hp and 109 hp respectively. These route power to the wheels via a 6-speed
manual transmission or an AMT. The Sail is produced in China by the Shanghai-GM
joint venture.
