Dongfeng Fengshen A9

New Spy Shots reveal that the Dongfeng Number 1 sedan will be called ‘Dongfeng Fengshen A9’ when it hits the Chinese car market at year’s end. Dongfeng will also bring back the ‘Aeolus’ name. This used to be the official English translation of the Fengshen name.

The Dongfeng Number 1/Fengshen A9 is a large sedan destined to compete with cars such as the Hongqi H7, the Roewe 950, and the upcoming JAC Refine A60.

It is based on the long-wheelbase variant of the front-wheel drive PSA PF3 platform. The only car that has ever been built on this platform up until now is the Citroen C6.

Size wise, the Fengshen A9 is very close to the C6:
·         Fengshen A9: 5066/1858/1470 mm, and wheelbase is 2900 mm.
·         Citroen C6: 4907/1859/1463 mm, and wheelbase is 2901 mm.

The difference in length is caused by a much larger rear overhang on the Fengshen A9.

The short-wheelbase variant of the PF3 platform underpins, among others, the Peugeot 508 and Citroen C5, both of which are manufactured in China by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture.

The Fengshen A9 will initially be available with only one engine: a 204 hp 1.8-liter turbo. Later on a 2.0-liter, and a 3.0-liter V6 will join the lineup. The 1.8-liter turbo is developed by Dongfeng, the 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter V6 are PSA engines.
