Mazda CX-4 (Spyshot)
A prototype of the Mazda CX-4 sports
crossover has been spied up close, offering a closer look at the exterior and
interior designs, as well as the features in store. It could be launched
sometime in 2016, ahead of the next generation Mazda CX-5 in 2017.
Spyshots reveal an exterior design that
appears to be very close to the Mazda Koeru concept from the 2015
Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA). Heavily influenced by the KODO design
language, the test mule features LED headlamps with DRLs which flow into an
upright horizontal slat grille, and small boomerang-shaped foglamps.
Compared to the Koeru concept, the
bumper designs have been slightly revised, while the rear end has dual tail
pipes that are no longer integrated into the bumper. The interior seems to be
inline with the 2016 Mazda CX-9 that was unveiled at the 2015 LA Auto Show last
month.
It comes equipped with a freestanding
Mazda CONNECT infotainment display with a dial controller on its floor console,
a McLaren 650S-inspired 3-piece instrument cluster with a rev counter in the
center and a small digital speedometer within the dial.
No technical specifications of the CX-4
have surfaced, as of now. It is likely to offer the more-practical Mazda CX-5’s
engine lineup, which includes two SKYACTIV-G petrol engines: 155 hp
2.0-liter or 184 hp 2.5-liter four cylinder engines. The CX-5 comes with a 6
speed manual or automatic, as well an AWD system as an optional extra.
