VW Taigun Compact SUV
The VW Group has scrapped the compact crossover for Volkswagen
as it was deemed too small. The Taigun was first
displayed as a study in 2012 and was supposed to hit the market this year. German
publication Focus reports that it won't be hitting the streets any time soon.
This doesn't mean that VW
will be absent from the rapidly expanding segment. Development of a Polo-based
SUV has already already been confirmed and such a model could debut in concept
form at the Geneva Motor Show.
Previously discussing the
car, board member for technical development Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neuser confirmed
that the Polo SUV will be the first in an extended range of VW SUV models and
be targeted towards the Chinese, South American and European markets.
The SUV
will slot below the recently-updated Tiguan in the marque's range and rival the
likes of the Nissan Juke, Mazda CX-3 etc.
