2016 Skoda All Wheel Drive Line-up

Skoda is showing off their all-wheel drive range in the compact and mid-size segment.

The Octavia has no fewer than 5 AWD models within its lineup: Octavia 4x4, Octavia Combi 4x4, Octavia RS 4x4, Octavia Combi RS 4x4 and of course, the Octavia Scout. The Yeti has the second-most AWD versions, with the 4x4, Outdoor 4x4 and Monte Carlo 4x4, whereas the Superb comes in last  with the Superb 4x4 and Superb Combi 4x4.

According to Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier, his company's AWD range is "stronger than ever before." He also added that these models "play an important role in Å KODA’s success. From 2008 to 2015, we rapidly built up the brand’s presence in the 4×4 sector and the sales of our 4×4 models tripled. We are now preparing for the next phase of Å KODA’s model campaign by expanding our SUV model range."

In 2015 alone, Skoda sold 67,500 4x4 Yetis, Octavias and Superbs across the globe, while continuing to be a market leader within the all-wheel drive estate car class with the current Octavia Combi 4x4 and Superb Combi 4x4 in Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Poland, Spain and Finland.

At the core of their 4x4 model lineup is the electronically controlled multi-plate clutch technology, where the control unit constantly calculates the ideal power distribution between the front and rear axle, making loss of traction almost impossible. Of course, when you're coasting or you're at low load, the front axle does all the driving, which in turn saves fuel.

As the newest addition to the Skoda 4x4 lineup, the Superb flagship comes with a choice of the following engines: 1.4 TSI/150 PS, 2.0 TSI/280 PS, 2.0 TDI/150 PS and 2.0 TDI/190 PS. The strongest versions here offer a particularly excellent ride when combining the AWD with the automatic DSG transmission.
