2017 Ford Shelby GT350
If you’re hoping to snag a 2017 Ford
Shelby GT350 Mustang to tear up your local canyon roads or race track, there’s
good news about the car’s equipment levels. The base GT350 will now come with more
performance features as standard, and there will also be a revised color
palette in which to adorn your car.
The biggest news is that the Track Pack
available for last year’s GT350 has been deleted, with all its features now
standard on the GT350. That means all versions of the go-fast Mustang now pack
an aluminum front strut-tower brace; MagneRide adaptive dampers; and coolers
for the engine oil, transmission oil, and differential. In addition, a trunklid
spoiler becomes standard on all Shelby GT350s.
As to how you’ll paint your GT350,
Competition Orange and Deep
Impact Blue are no more. Instead, Ford will add Ruby Red Metallic, Lightning
Blue, and Grabber Blue to the order sheet. There are no details yet on those
colors, but on the old Ford Mustang, Grabber Blue was an ultra-cool
flat-sky-blue shade.
The only other significant change for
the 2017 Ford Shelby GT350R concerns its available Electronics package, which
is now renamed the R-Electronics package; it bundles a nine-speaker sound
system, the Sync 3 infotainment system, automatic climate control, a rear-view
camera, floor mats, and a tire inflator/repair kit. We also expect that Ford
will continue, as previously announced, to allow GT350R buyers to pay extra to
re-install that model’s back seat if they desire more passenger capacity.
There will be no mechanical changes for
the 2017 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, meaning buyers will continue to enjoy the
monstrous power and ferocious sound of a 5.2-liter flat-plane V-8 engine, while
using a six-speed manual transmission to route that power to the ground.
Pricing for the new car shouldn’t
increase too much over the 2016 model, which starts at US$ 48,695 for the GT350
and US$ 62,195 for the GT350R.
