Brabus Mercedes-AMG GLE 63
Brabus is prone to tune almost every
vehicle with an AMG badge on it, and that means the GLE 63 SUV couldn’t escape
the German tuner’s customization spree.
As one of the latest addition to Brabus’
curriculum, Merc’s GLE model doesn’t bring anything new to the table,
especially as its much sportier sibling (the GLE Coupe) has already crossed the
tuner’s agenda.
Boasting 700 PS from the
modified 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 - 115 PS more over the
standard 585 HP output - might not sound like much, but for this to
happen Brabus performed numerous modifications to the mill, including two
special turbochargers with larger compressor units and Gold Heat Reflection
sheathing intake pipes.
The new components coordinate with the
new mapping for ignition and injection, uprating the torque figure as well.
Now, the peak torque was increased to 960 Nm making the car get
from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, stopping from accelerating at 300
km/h.
Of course, if this isn’t enough for the
average GLE 63 owner, Brabus is willing to take things to extreme, bumping the
power of the 4x4 to supercar-worthy performance figures. The 850 program
squeezes – you’ve guessed it – 850 PS and 1,450 Nm of
torque from the same powerplant, making the 2,150 kg car sprint to 100 km/h from standstill in 3.8 seconds all the way to a 320 km/h (electronically limited top speed.
Aiding the performance gains is Brabus’
aero, carbon-fiber kit, which includes a front spoiler lip, side air intakes,
tailor made deflectors, a diffuser, and other naked carbon components.
