Honda WR-V
Honda is set to introduce a new compact
crossover that, will be called ‘Honda WR-V’. It’s currently under
development, as seen in a spyshot clicked in Brazil, and internally known under
the codename ‘Honda 2FM’. A set of speculative renderings from Car And Driver
Brazil shows how the Honda WR-V may look like.
The Honda WR-V will be based on the same
platform as the Jazz. The Honda HR-V, also a sub-compact crossover, is also
based on this platform. However, the HR-V is too premium a compact vehicle to
have potential for a price sensitive market like India.
The Brazilian publication, citing a
source familiar with the Honda WR-V’s development, says that the wheelbase will
be 2.60 metre-long, making it a possibly more spacious vehicle compared to the
Ford EcoSport (2,521 mm/2.52 metre) which will be its main rival.
A 1.5-litre engine will be the standard
offering in Brazil, along with a choice of 5-speed manual and continuously
variable transmission. The 1.5-litre engine could be the i-VTEC FlexOne unit
from the Jazz that develops 115 hp (petrol)/116 hp (ethanol) and 149 Nm
(petrol)/150 Nm (ethanol) of torque. In India, the engine choices may be 1.2-litre
i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel.
The Honda WR-V will be introduced at the
2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show in November and will go on sale in India in 2017.
