Mahindra Scorpio 1.99L and XUV500 1.99L
Mahindra has launched the Mahindra
Scorpio 1.99L and Mahindra XUV500 1.99L in Delhi. The Scorpio 1.99L is priced
between INR 9.67 lakh – INR 12.75 lakh, while the XUV500 1.99L costs between
INR 11.58 lakh – INR 15.51 lakh (all ex-showroom Delhi).
The only change is the mHawk diesel
engine, which has been downsized from 2.2L to 1.99L, thus enabling Mahindra to
sell the two models that were affected by the government’s ban on registration
of diesel engines displacing above 2000 cc.
The 1997 cc mHawk diesel engine outputs
120 hp/280 Nm in the Scorpio which is identical to the outgoing 2.2L unit, and
140 hp/320 Nm (10 Nm down) in the XUV500. In the Scorpio and XUV500, the new
engine is only available with a 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions,
respectively, and only with 2WD. The 1997 cc mHawk diesel engine outputs 120
hp/280 Nm in the Scorpio, and 140 hp/320 Nm in the XUV500.
With the launch of the revised Scorpio
and XUV500, Mahindra is the first manufacturer in India to act upon the new ban
that affected the two models. This could prove to be a fail-safe move should
the government decide to extend the ban post March 31, 2016.
