Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy by Waldow
The Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy comes as a
capable, sporty hot-hatch straight from the factory, but one tuner decided to
extract all the the “Renaultsport” potential within it, transforming it into a
track-worthy tool.
Waldow focused its attention on the
vehicle’s on-track abilities, but the engine also received its share of
modifications, including a water-cooling system, an optimized software, a NAP
sport-exhaust, and an altered turbocharger with a downpipe and a
sport-catalytic converter.
Unfortunately, an accurate updated power
figure wasn’t provided, but rest assure that the hefty modifications make the
1.6-litre turbocharged powerplant produce more than its original 217 HP and 380 Nm of torque and sounds apart as well.
The chassis and suspension also went
through a thorough upgrade, as Waldow installed a modified KW-Clubsport
suspension (which includes adjustable rebound and compression values),
track-widening 17-inch aluminum alloys wrapped in semi-slicks, upgraded Brembo
brakes with steel flex lines and racing brake pads and a Club roll-cage. Not
only that, but the interior also received Recaro pole-position bucket seats,
4-point-seat-belts, and an Alcantara steering wheel.
Needless to say, apart for the
comprehensive power upgrade, the German tuner preferd to “add lightness” and
fine tune the vehicle. The result is a Renault reminiscent of the old Megane
R26.R – even the color combo is a throwback to the Megane’s “Racing Blue
Renaultsport paint, although the blue hue on the Clio is the result of
well-executed vinyl wrap.
