VW GT Ge
Here is the VW GT
Ge electric sports car, an impressive study made by one of our readers and
industrial and transportation design graduate, Eljesah Shala, as part of a
sponsored thesis from the German carmaker.
“My Bachelor Thesis was sponsored by the
Volkswagen Design Center in Wolfsburg”, Eli tells us, adding that he just
graduated from the University of Art in Braunschweig, Germany.
If certain elements of the GT Ge seem
familiar, especially on the profile, that’s because the designer drew
inspiration from VW’s series of Gran Turismo Vision digital models that came to
life with the GTI Roadster in 2014 and GTE Sport in 2015.
But whereas those two concepts didn’t
really try to hide their Golf hatchback origins, the GT Ge looks like a proper
sports, or even super-car, with taut lines that sculpt the
body. The sharp front end plays with the new e-Golf’s signature C-shaped LED
daytime running lights, while the rear has an even more exotic presence.
Shala says the GT Ge was designed around
the same wheelbase as the Golf hatch at 2,637 mm, but is notably
longer at 4,500 mm, wider and a whole lot shorter in height at
1,152 mm. He adds that special consideration was given to
aerodynamics (in theory always) to ease the electric motors’ workload and
improve cooling.
