2016 Toyota Avensis & Auris Hybrid
Toyota has announced a series of small
upgrades for its British-built Avensis and Auris models. The new Avensis and
Auris now come with the updated Toyota Touch 2 infotainment system, which
features a seven-inch touchscreen display with revised menu pages and an
improved interface for the My Toyota online portal.
The new navigation system comes as
standard with three years of free map updates and access to the online services
which include live info on fuel prices, weather, parking and traffic
conditions.
The engine range of the new Avensis
remains unchanged, offering two diesels and three petrol units. The smaller
1.6-litre diesel produces 110 hp and 270 Nm of torque while the
larger 2.0-litre makes 141 hp and 320 Nm of torque. CO2 emissions are
rated at 108 g/km and 119 g/km respectively.
Petrol engines consist of 130 hp
1.6-litre, 145 hp 1.8-litre, and 150 bhp 2.0-litre Valvematic units. CO2
emissions are rated at 142 g/km for the 1.6, 139 g/km for the 1.8 and 142 g/km for
the 2.0 with the CVT transmission.
Other revisions include the addition of
a new Platinum Bronze paint finish (also available in the Auris) and a new
16-inch alloy wheel design.
Both the Auris Hybrid hatchback and
Touring Sports wagon versions now benefit from a retuned hybrid powertrain,
with Toyota claiming “an improved, natural driving experience with no
compromise in the cars’ highly efficient performance”.
The company’s engineers
were able to tune the powertrain in order to offer a better alignment between
the increase in engine and vehicle speeds, resulting to a more linear
acceleration feel.
Customers looking for a 2016 Auris can
also choose a new Solid Blue paint finish. Both new models are on sale now.
