Alfa Romeo Giulia Diesel
Alfa Romeo released all the
specs of the Giulia’s launch range, with the first batch of cars on offer to be
diesel-only models.
Customers wishing to get the
new Alfa Romeo Giulia first in line will have to settle between two diesel
options powered by a 2.2-litre four cylinder unit.
This will be the brand’s
first diesel engine to have been built entirely in aluminum, featuring the
latest Multijet II injection system. The variable geometry turbocharger is now
electrically operated to minimize the lag and further benefit fuel economy.
Alfa Romeo has also uses a balancing countershaft for less vibrations,
improving the comfort levels.
Entry-level models will
offer 147 hp at 4000rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 1500 rpm, allowing the
Giulia to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds (eight-speed
auto: 8.2 sec) and onto a top speed of 220 km/h. Notice that versions
equipped with the automatic gearbox offer more torque, with 450 Nm on
tap.
A more powerful version of
the same engine offers 177 hp at 3750 rpm and the same exact torque figures with
the 147 hp version. In this case the Giulia is capable of a 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds (auto: 7.1 sec) with the top speed rated at 230 km/h.
Both versions offer
identical fuel economy figures and CO2 emissions, with Alfa Romeo announcing a
combined 4.2 lt/100 km and 109 g/km of CO2.
All versions of the new Alfa
Romeo Giulia will feature the company’s innovative brake system which
integrates the stability control with the traditional servo brake. The
Integrated Brake System (IBS) offers according to Alfa ‘excellent feeling and
total absence of pedal vibrations’ while allowing the Giulia to stop from
100 km/h to zero in a class-leading 38.5 meters.
The chassis benefits from an
active suspension setup which the company calls Alfa Link. A new double track
control arm suspension with semi-virtual steering axis was developed to
guarantee the accuracy of the front end, with Alfa Romeo claiming a constant
tire footprint during cornering. The rear axle uses a multilink, 4 and a half
track solution patented by the company.
Another standard feature
across the range will be the Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency
Brake systems, with the latter capable of stopping the car on its own at speed
up to 65 km/h.
The cabin hosts the optional
8.8-inch Connect 3D Nav infotainment system, controlled by a rotary dial on the
center console. The system is also operated via an advanced voice recognition
system and offers complete connectivity with all mobile devices. The navigation
system features high resolution 3D maps while certain driver information is
displayed on the screen, depending on the driving mode selected via the DNA
switch. Standard versions will come equipped with a 6.5-inch screen.
Three trim levels will be
available: Giulia, Super and Quadrifoglio which is reserved for the 503 hp
version. Alfa Romeo will offer additional equipment with the Sport Pack, the
Driver Assistance Pack and the Business Pack. Mopar will also launch a full
range of accessories for the new Giulia, aiming to cover all tastes.
Customers in Italy, Germany,
France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Netherlands can already place
their orders for the new Alfa Romeo Giulia. The full details about the 200 hp
and 280 hp petrol versions powered by the new turbocharged 2.0-litre engine will
be announced on a later date.
