BMW i8 Futurism Edition
When you thought the i8 can’t get more
futuristic than it already is, BMW goes and creates the “Futurism Edition” in
collaboration with Garage Italia Customs.
The vehicle is part of the 50th
anniversary celebration of BMW’s history in Italy, using its technological
advanced body as a canvas for Giacomo Balla’s "Lampada ad Arco"
painting.
The artist’s original artwork is on
display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and it symbolizes the advent
of electricity in the 1900s, representing a street lamp powered by electricity
under the moonlight. It was chosen due to its revolutionary color technique and
its visionary portrayal of future technology – just like the i8.
Described as a pairing of a sports car
of the future with Italian creativity and craft, the project isn’t BMW’s first
venture in the world of fine art, as the Bavarian-based company has a long
history with various artists, creators, designers and producers.
The BMW i8 Futurism Edition is a practice of style. It
gave the Garage Italia Customs Maestros a chance to celebrate a car which is
projected towards the future of mobility. At the same time, it honours Italian
art with Giacomo Balla, who is a prominent figure of the Futurism
movement.
The colorful vehicle will have a chance
to unwind its 357 HP hybrid powertrain at the 2016 Mille Miglia, following the
BMW 328 driven by Sergio Solero, President and CEO of BMW Italy.
