New BMW 7-Series Centennial Editions
The rumored Centennial Edition of BMW
7-Series became a reality today, though the Germans might just want to refrain
from naming their cars in-house from now on.
The company that once had the
most understandable and minimalist nomenclature in the industry, has baptized
its new special edition 7-Series for the USA, the “BMW Individual M760i xDrive
Model V12 Excellence THE NEXT 100 YEARS”. We’re surprised they didn’t include
any other facts and specs in the name.
The entire series is equally awkwardly
named the “BMW Individual 7 Series THE NEXT 100 YEARS” and will be produced in
a limited quantity of only 100 units worldwide available in three different engine
variants.
These are the 740Le iPerformance and
740Le xDrive iPerformance with a 326 PS 2.0L four-cylinder plug-in
hybrid system, the 450 PS turbocharged V8 750Li and 750Li xDrive, as
well as the M760Li xDrive with a twelve-cylinder power unit.
In case you want to ask your dealer
about them, these are their full names:
- BMW Individual 740Le iPerformance THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
- BMW Individual 740Le xDrive iPerformance THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
- BMW Individual 750Li THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
- BMW Individual 750Li xDrive THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
- BMW Individual M760Li xDrive Model V12 Excellence THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
In a stark reminder of how the luxury
car market is being globalized, the US will only get 5 examples of the M760Li
xDrive powered by a twin-turbocharged V12, which BMW says, will deliver 610 hp –
up from the stock model’s 600 PS, unless BMW made a typo on the release.
Regardless of engine choice, all special
edition 7s will be offered in an exclusive “Centennial Blue Metallic’
Individual paint with Individual fine grain full Merino leather trim and
further interior details from –you guessed it, BMW’s Individual arm.
All cars ride on 20-inch Individual
forged light-alloy wheels and feature handcrafted signet bearing the lettering
“THE NEXT 100 YEARS” on the B pillars, the interior strips above the glove
compartment on the passenger side as well as the front and rear seat headrests.
In addition, the cover of the cup holder in the front area of the center
console sports the inscription “1 of 100”.
And that’s not all, as they say in those
late night TV infomercials, as the equipment range also includes am exclusive
Montblanc fountain pen in a matching color with the car.
But it wouldn’t be a true BMW if you
couldn’t splash some cash on optional extras – even on a range-topping special
like the Centennial Edition. The list is surprisingly long, with some of the
available options including Ambient Light, Welcome Light Carpet, Ambient
Highlight in the rear compartment, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround
Sound System and the Ambient Air Package.
BMW also mentions the Executive
Lounge Package that comprises automatic air conditioning with 4-zone control
system, electrically adjustable comfort seats with massage function and
Vitality Programme, Active Seat Ventilation as well as the options Executive
Lounge Seating, Executive Lounge Rear Compartment Console and Rear Compartment
Entertainment Experience including BMW Touch Command.
