Tata Nano Pelican
Autocar India has posted the first ever
spyshot of an all new Tata Nano that is heavily camouflaged. It’s codenamed the
Nano ‘Pelican’, and is reported to be positioned between the GenX Nano and Tata
Tiago.
Although the camouflaged exterior keeps
the design under wraps, a closer look reveals larger 13 inch wheel caps, new
headlight and engine hood designs, repositioned fuel filler inlet and washer
for the front windshield. The design of the next gen Tata Nano is expected to
draw cues from the Nano Europa Concept unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.
The interior of the test mule has also
been snapped, and it reveals more significant changes in store for Tata’s
smallest hatchback. The Tata Pelican adopts an all-new dashboard with a center
console similar to the Tata Tiago, bigger instrument cluster that now sits
behind the steering wheel, and a new infotainment system from Harman, which
could feature the Tiago’s turn-by-turn navigation feature.
As for mechanical details, the report suggests
that the Nano Pelican could pack a larger displacement engine with an output of
over 60 PS. Former Tata Chairman, Ratan Tata, did reveal to Autocar India that
more variants of the Nano would be introduced, which could be powered by a
bigger three cylinder engine. If it turns out to be true, this will be a
significant upgrade over the current model’s 624 cc engine that only outputs 38
PS and 51 Nm of torque.
