2018 Chevy Equinox / Opel Antara
Our spies caught what appears to be a
Chevrolet Equinox prototype among an Opel Meriva and Insignia being tested in
Southern Europe.
This could only mean that the Equinox
will morph into an Opel/Vauxhall Antara replacement for the European market.
Notice the back-seat passenger who clearly is not happy with our guys being
there.
The previous Opel Antara was also
sharing the same architecture with the Chevrolet Captiva and is no secret that
Opel wants badly to add more SUVs in their portfolio, as they currently offer
only one crossover in the form of the Mokka.
According to our intel, the
Equinox/Antara SUV will be based on the new Delta platform that also underpins
the fresh Chevrolet Cruze. Entry-level models will be available with
front-wheel drive as standard for the smaller engines and all-wheel drive
offered as standard with the bigger-engine models.
The new Antara will be offered with a
range of petrol and diesel four-cylinder engines paired with manual or
automatic transmissions. The new SUV won’t offer a seven-seat configuration in
order to make space for the next generation Zafira model which is expected to
morph into a crossover as well.
The new Chevrolet Equinox/Opel Antara is
expected to be revealed in 2017.
