Rolls Royce 103EX
Codenamed 103EX, Rolls Royce’s
futuristic concept is the company’s proposal for a fully autonomous coachbuilt
luxury vehicle, featuring a hand-built chassis made from the most advanced
materials.
The company claims that by using
cutting-edge manufacturing technologies will allow its customers to get
involved even more in the design of the shape, size and silhouette of their
future Rolls-Royce.
What that means is that the famed
British brand plans to return back to its authentic coachbuilding era by
embracing the latest advances in technology.
There is no steering in the Rolls Royce
103EX’s cabin, freeing up space for the passengers who can enjoy their time on
the sofa-like seat. Instead, there is ‘Eleanor’, the company’s virtual
assistant and chauffeur. Much like in what we’ve seen in sci-fi movies,
‘Eleanor’ can not only drive the car to the desired destination but “advise her
owners on itineraries, schedules and options before they leave their residence,
reminding about appointments and tasks and making suggestions to ease any
anticipated impediments.”
A transparent OLED screen mounted on the
front wall of the cabin gives passengers all the information they need, with a
finely crafted analogue clock hovering in a central position above it.
The narrow 28in wheels are each hand
built from 65 individual pieces of aluminium with Rolls Royce enclosing them so
they can resemble a futuristic catamaran. The glass canopy over the cabin can
open high enough to allow passengers to stand and provide shelter while a red
light is projected to provide a carpet-like feel.
Rolls Royce has opted for a
zero-emissions electric powertrain for the 103EX as it acknowledges that V12
combustion engines are unlike to survive in the future, showing the path they
will follow in the coming years.
