Yamaha Yard Built 'Son of Time'
Based on a stock XV950, this latest bike
in Yamaha's Yard Built series comes from Amsterdam custom bike shop Numbnut
Motorcycles but has also been done in collaboration with Dutch watchmakers TW
Steel, and is called ‘Son of Time’.
Numbnut’s Roderick Seibert spent the
winter locked in his Amsterdam workshop stripping a Yamaha XV950 back to the
bones in preparation for the bike’s rebirth as a tribute to the salt flat
racers of the world. In chasing the look of the salt flat racers, a stretched
frame meant losing almost all of the Yamaha parts except for the engine.
Bespoke parts including engine covers, air intake, seat and fuel tank give the
bike a minimal look.
Fellow Dutch custom builders Nozem built
the exhaust to add the right snarling soundtrack whilst Dymag carbon wheels
save weight in the quest for speed. Brakes to match the performance sees Brembo
monoblock calipers, Brembo 320mm floating discs and a Brembo RCS19 master brake
cylinder added to the build.
‘Son of Time’ also gets a major
suspension upgrade from K-Tech using their fully adjustable front fork and rear
shock for total control. Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres are a rare custom bike
addition as are a Dynojet Power Commander and Dynojet Quickshifter – both present
to make the most of delivering the XV950's power.
