1949 Mercedes-Benz Type 170
Cabriolet (W136)
The Cabrio made its
appearance shortly after the launch of the saloon in 1946, bringing forth a new
dimension to the extensively used W136 platform.
The car was no different
from its hard-top stalemate, having shared the same styling with low and
prominent front wheel arches, wide doors sills and smaller rear fenders with a
twist of angular cabin design that contrasted with the rest of the body.
A manually
operated soft-top was the only detail that set the car the car apart, making it
a versatile fun to ride all-season car. The two seater also had the same
rear-end styling as the saloon with a smoothly drawn dropping compartment that
housed a small luggage room.
