2018 Jeep Wrangler Jl 2 Door
The 2018
Jeep Wrangler will be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission in a
bid to improve responsiveness and fuel economy. It was believed by some that
the automatic would be the only transmission offered on the JL in order to
simplify manufacturing logistics and engineering.
However, based on these
latest photos, it appears that three-pedal enthusiasts have little to fear, as
our crack spy shooter nabbed these interior shots of a JL Wrangler mule with a
six-speed manual.
It’s believed the 2018 Wrangler will be
offered with one of three engine options: an updated version of the 3.6L
Pentastar V-6, the 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel, and a 2.0L I-4 turbo. The manual
transmission is likely to be offered with the Pentastar and turbo I-4. The
EcoDiesel will most likely be automatic-only. The 3.0L EcoDiesel V-6 is only
offered with the automatic in FCA’s U.S. products. The decision to offer a
manual transmission demonstrates FCA and Jeep’s commitment to its enthusiast
base.
The vast majority of Wranglers are
likely to be sold with automatics. However, for those for whom it matters,
offering a manual transmission is a major symbolic gesture. However, we are heartened by the fact that manual enthusiasts weren’t totally
forgotten.
