Maruti Baleno DualJet SHVS
Overdrive
has acquired spyshots of an export-spec Maruti Baleno Dualjet SHVS testing on
Indian soil, which is not confirmed to launch in India.
The
reason could be attributed to the 1.25L (1,242 cc) Dualjet engine, which does not
conform to the government’s sub-4m tax incentive, thus placing it at a higher
tax bracket. In export-spec, the Baleno 1.25 SHVS produces 90 PS and 120 Nm of
torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
However,
Maruti will launch the Baleno with the 1.0L Boosterjet engine as the sportier
Maruti Baleno ‘RS’, which made its debut at the Auto Expo 2016. Maruti hasn’t
revealed technical details on the Baleno RS. In export-spec, the engine
produces 111 PS and 170 Nm of torque, and is available with a 5-speed manual or
6-speed automatic.
When
launched in the festive season period this year, the Boosterjet variant will
rival premium, performance oriented hatchbacks like the VW Polo GT TSI or the
Fiat Punto Abarth.
