While the BMW i3 is becoming more
popular with police forces around the world, another "green" vehicle,
the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, is getting ready to serve and protect Ukraine's
residents.
Announced by the country's Minister of
Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, the 651 units ordered will replace the dated
VAV and UAZ Russian-made police vehicles and will arrive with the Natspolitsiya
(Ukraine Police) soon.
"So, gentlemen, Ukrainian
policemen! You will receive 651 new and unique modern powerful eco-friendly
hybrid crossover Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The people of Ukraine hope that you
will be worth of this innovation! Serve with honor!", Avakov said in a
statement, cited by InsideEVs.
Mitsubishi readied the Outlander PHEV
for the 2017MY, marking its first appearance at the New York Auto Show, prior
to it going on sale this fall. It looks identical to the updated European and
Japanese variants and features a 2.0-liter petrol engine and two electric
motors, mounted on the front and rear axles, providing all-wheel drive
performance. The SUV drinks almost 5 lt/100 km (47.04 mpg US) and its 12 kWh
lithium-ion battery pack, fitted under the floor, provides an all-electric
driving range of 60.8 km.
